In the time of recent time, no schedule is complete without consulting warnings and confirming with health authorities. Matters of coronavirus may continue to increase, outbreaks and Hot Spots remain possible even as vaccines begin to make their way into the circulation. And despite the ubiquitous uncertainty, along with the owners pleading for a delay, it seems that the 2021 season will start on time, according to Evan Drellich of the Athletic. MLB and MLBPA have each announced their intention to adhere to the abc and offer regular Starts for spring training and opening day.
The hunch was that any delay would come from the league office’s admonition, but Drellich provides this MLB statement, “We have announced the dates for the start of spring Training and championship season. To the extent that we will move closer, we decide in consultation with the public health authorities, our medical experts and the Association of players, if changes should be considered, given the current increase in matters of recent time and challenges that we were faced with, in 2020 at the end of a season 60 games in a sport that”
Homeowners would prefer to delay the start of the season to get more people vaccinated and generally provide a safer gaming environment. But you also want to limit the number of games played without Fans present. With the ABC in place, however, MLB has little remedy but to start the season on time. Given the success of the NFL and NBA in operating under the current circumstances, it would likely require a significant deterioration of our current situation to seriously derail the season.
This is good story for the players who are constantly pleading for a full season of 162 games. The logistics of the season remains more complicated than ever, and the calendar itself is probably a dynamic document. Nevertheless, it seems more likely than ever that there will be a full season in 2021.
